Mumford and Sons will headline  Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Exeter this May, taking to the main stage on the opening day.

Scott Mills announced the act on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, earlier today.

The event is Europe’s biggest free ticketed event, and has a line up which includes The Weeknd, Iggy Azalea, Nick Jonas and Jess Glynne.

Marcus Mumford said: “I’ve never been to Radio 1’s Big Weekend so we’ve got a lot of catching up to do… I wanna make up for it with five years’ worth of riders.”

The tickets for the event were snapped up in the first day of release, with 25,000 free tickets available for each day.
