Plenty of changes have been occurring across England in the past few months, and that includes the introduction of £5 polymer notes to our currency. Soon, we will also be seeing £20 polymer notes in circulation, so here’s everything you need to know.

When will the new note be in circulation?

After the new £10 note has been introduced this September, we’ll be waiting another 2 years before the £20 polymer is launched. So, by 2020 all of our notes, except for £50, will be made from polymer.

Who will be on the note?

British artist J.M.W Turner has been chosen to appear on the note. According to Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England, he is:

“Perhaps the single most influential British artist of all time. His work was transformative for the art world. His influence spanned his lifetime and well beyond.”

As well as a portrait of Turner, the reverse of the note will include the quote ‘light is therefore colour’, and a signature from Turner’s will.

As the note isn’t yet in production, final decisions will be made by summer 2017.
