King Kong is back, friends. And he looks b**ped. A new trailer has been released showing monsters, giant bugs, and the big ape himself.

Kong: Skull Island will star Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L Jackson, John C Reilly and John Goodman. The first trailer was revealed a few months ago, at San Diego Comic Con. It teased a larger Kong, instead of the ‘all fours’ gorilla we got back in 2005. A new poster was also revealed.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts spoke about how they tackled Kong’s appearance.

“There’s been obviously so many different versions of him in the past and ours needed to feel unique to our film,” he said. “I had a mandate that I wanted a kid to be able to doodle him on the back of a piece of homework, and for his shapes to be simple and hopefully iconic enough that, like, a third grader could draw that shape and you would know what it is.

“We sort of went back to the 1933 version in the sense that he’s a bipedal creature that walks in an upright position, as opposed to the anthropomorphic, anatomically correct silver-back gorilla that walks on all fours. Our Kong was intended to say, like, this isn’t just a big gorilla or a big monkey. This is something that is its own species. It has its own set of rules, so we can do what we want.”

In 2015, it was announced that the new Kong film would be a collective part of the new trend of ‘monster movies’, with the next instalment after Kong being King Kong v Godzilla.

Let’s just hope it ends up being better than the last versus movie we saw.
