This is not a goof. Newcastle, the veritable jewel of the north, will be blessed with its first Greggs drive-thru after the idea was approved by planning officers. The plan is to open the branch at Tyneside Autoparc, North Gosforth, off the A1056.

The project was drawn up by The Kay Group UK and will also include a petrol service station and a store, which will sell everyday items like newspapers, bread, milk and tinned foods.

The whole scheme is estimated to create about 40 jobs. In a report, North Tyneside Council officers stated the site is unlikely to have a massive impact on Killingworth’s shops nearby.

It’s like home, isn’t it?

It will be designed to ‘cater for top-up food and incidental convenience shopping’.

The officers added:

‘With regards to the proposed drive-thru, the baked goods offered in Killingworth Town Centre comprise an existing Greggs and a baked goods counter within Morrisons.’

Earlier this year, CEO Roger Whiteside said that 2018 would be a record investment for the baked goods company.

Drive-thru Greggs? Sign me up, I’ll take two sausage rolls a tuna crunch and a custard doughnut.

And a Diet Coke. I’m watching my figure.
