Nicky Morgan heckled by teachers

By Lauren E. White

Education  Secretary Nicky Morgan was heckled by teachers this Easter weekend during a speech she made to the NASWUT teaching union.

After the Chancellor announced the controversial plan to make all schools become academies, Ms Morgan was given a hostile response to say the least when calling on NASWUT to work with ministers on the government’s education reforms.

While Ms Morgan attempted to be firm, claiming that “there will be no pulling back” on the government’s plans, teachers are thinking otherwise. The National Union of Teachers (NUT) is claiming wide opposition to the academisation of schools and is expected to hold a striking ballot.

The NUT conference in Brighton this weekend will call for a wide-ranging campaign against compulsory academy status, including a looming threat of a strike in the summer term. The union’s general secretary, Christine Blower, said: “Sometimes the government gets it spectacularly wrong… There is very wide and deep opposition.”

If you’re looking for a bit of comedy gold this Easter weekend, we suggest you check out the video of Nicky Morgan getting heckled by teachers. We wonder if she’s regretting not taking notes from her boss and jetting off to Lanzarote like the Prime Minister.
