Usually, popular sports brand Nike wouldn’t be topping anybody’s list of eco-friendly brands; however, it’s reported that the global athletics label is officially going green!

Nike kicked off the year with a pretty big promise, vowing to generate $50 billion in annual sales by the year 2020. For the world’s largest sports brand, this was a pretty huge target of upping their sales by a whopping 10%; surprisingly though, they’re not willing to let this come at the expense of the environment! Nike has not only set itself a huge sales target, but also aims to achieve this using the most sustainable methods possible in a bid to help conserve the planet.

After issuing its annual report on sustainability, CEO of the global company Mark Parker highlighted the fact that despite sales revenue growing by a massive 64%, Nike has managed to confine its absolute emissions across manufacturing, logistics and facilities to only 20% growth. This equates to a huge 19% decrease in carbon emissions per unit of Nike products.

The CEO also made a point of noting that a huge proportion – 71% to be exact – of Nike products such as apparel and trainers are produced using recyclable materials. In the opening letter of the sustainability report, Parker wrote: “We have embraced sustainable innovation as a powerful engine for growth and a catalyst for change.”

Let’s hope Nike can keep up the green work and help save the planet! #GoGreen
