Nimona – Comic Review

Nimona: the shape-shifting side kick of a bad guy bent on revenge against the Inquisition, Ballister Blackheart. With his scientific capabilities and her supernatural abilities, they become an unlikely pair working together in the face of an illusive corporation, who run secret military operations under the nose of the public.

Set in a world of science and magic, it is a delight to read, and gorgeous to look at. With the same kind of Adventure Time-y style which seems to be very popular this year, it’s a rare diamond in the rough.

Started as a web comic by Noelle Stevenson, it’s refreshing to see such a vibrant female lead in a comic, who is (for want of a better word) kind of a jerk. Nimona is brash, playful and mischievous, annoying Blackheart as much as possible.

The story is touching, and well-fitting for the world, (I literally can’t say anything else because it would be spoilers) but there are moments where you will make audible ‘aww’ noises, and you’ll have no choice but to want more at the end of the book.

Dragons, knights, science and more!

Available at most good book stores, and Amazon.
