After a some negative Steam reception and a few days of frustration, No Man’s Sky developer Sean Murray has said on Twitter:

While the developer did not state any specifics, it is generally thought that the patch will fix the plague of problems currently on the shaky PC launch.

Hello Games launched an “experimental branch” of the game, in an effort to fix some of the problems, and to show players what changes would be applied before they released it to everyone. It could be possible that the patch would be a full version, which includes all of the fixes listed below.

Improved AMD Support – literally thousands of lines of code have been written and rewritten overnight to support AMD CPUs.

Alt-Tab fixes – Some systems were crashing whenever the game was tabbed out of. This issue should now be resolved.

Shader Cashing – Framerate was being knocked for a number of people by what’s called ‘shader cashing’. This improves loading times on particularly intense games. This will improve stuttering, and generally improve framerate.

Mouse Jitter – Smoothing mouse movement will improve hitching, where the mouse seems to become stuck on the screen, and now has a “Mouse Smoothing” slider in the Options menu.

A number of other changes have been made also, including improved performance on certain GPUs, and a max FPS cap.

If it makes the game playable, then we should all be happy as Larry.

Who is Larry, anyway?
