Contrary to what we thought the other week, it has officially been announced that Ben Affleck will not be directing the future standalone Batman film. The actor himself and Warner Bros. confirm this; however, he will star in the movie (obviously).

He said to Entertainment Weekly:

“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion, and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require.”

Warner Bros. said in their statement that they fully support Affleck’s decision and that they “remain committed to working with him to bring the standalone Batman picture to life.”

There has been some speculation that that Affleck’s Batman could release in 2018, however nothing is concrete.

Affleck’s next dive into the suit of the Caped Crusader will be in November, upon the release of Justice League.
