A former Odeon Cinema which was built way back when in the 1930s collapsed last night just after 11pm.

A bus shelter was crushed underneath the building, however no one was injured during the collapse. The actual demolition was vacant, and luckily, no one was in need of a bus. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have said inspectors were at the scene.

The cause of the sudden mess of scaffold and brickwork is unknown.

Workers cleaned up the street throughout the night, and all entrance to the road was blocked to avoid any injury until work was done.

A Newcastle City Council spokesman said that the cinema had been under demolition since January, as part of regeneration for the wider area.

Main point is that no one was injured. It’s all good – nothing to see here.

Move along.
