One Pint Warning

A sheriff in Scotland has issued a warning that just one pint would put you over the legal limit. This follows two cases of drink driving at Dumfries Sheriff Court, where both drivers claimed they’d had only one pint. Scott Pattison, sheriff in the area, fined them both £450 and banned them from getting behind the wheel for a year. Scott said “That’s the lesson in Scotland. Just one drink can put you over, it’s as tight as that.”

Annan resident Donald McCallie, aged 66, admitted driving on nearby Summergate Road on 19th April, with a reading of 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath. As of December 2014, the legal limit has been 22 micrograms in Scotland.

Solicitor Liz Dougan said that Mr. McCallie had one pint of cider and if he had been just 10 miles down the road, he would have been within legal limits in the UK. In England, the legal limit is 35 micrograms. Something our celebrities can’t seem to adhere to.

62-year-old Ashley Medicks, of Kirkgunzeon, also pleaded guilty to charges of driving under the influence. He also stressed he had only had one pint. Despite this, however, the sheriff fined both men, and has banned them from the road for the next year.
