One to Watch: Seafret

Up and coming alt-folk duo Seafret take on radio 1’s Maida Vale in a spine-chilling acoustic session for Zane Lowe. The budding North East talent scrambled their way on to the BBC introducing playlist on the 17th of November, bagging a spot after supporting indie star Jake Bugg in a gig at their home town of Bridlington.

Luck struck the northern souls again when Radio 1 DJ legend Zane Lowe invited the pair to showcase their strong vocals and promising tunes on the final Maida Vale session of 2014 on the 26th November.

Their debut EP ‘Give me something’ is an emotional ballad lyrically based on the boys own experiences of leaving their home town of Bridlington after being heavily influenced by musical father figures. The duo consists of Jack Sedman and Harry Draper. Jack’s beautifully bare vocals are nurtured by soft and melodic acoustics summoned from Harry’s frets to create a refreshingly clear indie sound.

In the Maida Vale session the young hopefuls revealed they were ‘itching’ to tour and are still working on their debut album set to be released in 2015, and after their flawless rendition of the Hozier track Angel of small death and the codeine scene we’re equally as itching to hear more. The pair has confirmed they will be supporting Hozier as he tours his self- titled debut album in December.

In the exclusive Maida vale interview, they revealed the struggles of open-mic nights and difficult crowds in their bid for making it big style, saying they were ‘tough’ but you’ve just got to ‘believe in what you do.’ And we’re glad they did.
