With summer essentially over, you may start to be feeling a bit blue – no more gigs, no more cocktails by the beach, and so on. So, we thought we would try to remind you of those good ol’summer days and have a round-up of what type of gigs are the best. Each year, there are hundreds of gigs, big and small, up and down the country, but which are best – outdoor or indoor?

So, what’s so good about indoor gigs?

  • You don’t have to worry about the weather – whether it’s raining, snowing, or even thundering and lightening, you will still have an amazing time.
  • It’s often a lot less cramped – indoor gigs usually have seating available, so if you don’t like being squashed up against a drunken randomer then it’s definitely a better option.

But, what are the downsides?

  • The atmosphere just isn’t the same. Of course you can have a sing and a dance, and get a bit tipsy, but it’s not quite the same as being covered in mud in a field with all of your friends, without a care in the world.
  • They tend to be pretty short – indoor gigs tend to only last a few hours, and then you’re left to go back home feeling post-gig blues.

What are the positives to an outdoor festival?

  • The atmosphere is amazing. You’ll make plenty of new friends, and you might even end up sharing a tent with some of them if you get so drunk that you can’t find your own.
  • It never ends. Well, of course it will eventually, but you get to spend much, much longer enjoying yourself than you’d be able to at an indoor gig.

And the negatives?

  • If you don’t like the outdoors you will hate festivals. You’ll get muddy, you won’t be able to shower properly for days, and you might even have to urinate in a field.
  • It’s expensive – a weekend away can cost hundreds of pounds, plus all of the money you’ll spend on food and drink while you’re there. It’s pretty costly, so you may have to save up.

So, what’s the verdict? Well, during summer time we would definitely suggest trying an outdoor gig, even if it’s just the once, as the experience is something special. However, at the moment an indoor gig is probably a safer bet as they’re often much cheaper and you don’t have to worry about the weather. Either way you’ll love it, so go and see as many gigs as you can!
