This does not bode well for the pants I’ll be wearing while playing it.

Outlast 2, the demo for which we reviewed a few months ago, has been effectively banned in Australia, after being deemed too adult for an R18+ rating. It’s so adult that even adults shouldn’t play it.

The sequel to the 2014 hit will be classified as too adult along with Hotline Miami 2 and Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni.

You uh… you don’t even want to Google that title. Just don’t.

You’ll thank me later.

The reasons for this ban come from Kotaku, as they have some details as to some of the graphic content in the game. We won’t go into detail, but it’s essentially implied sexual violence toward the main character.

The first game did not shy away from taboo subjects like violence and male sexual assault, given that at various points in the game, there are implications of sexual violence toward inmates and the main character, however the description of Kotaku gives of the scene is far worse.

The demo for the second game was classed as an R18+ due to the themes and rather uncomfortable violence toward the end.

Some games like Fallout 3 and even South Park: The Sick of Truth managed to get around the ratings by editing and changing certain things in the game. The South Park game, in true fashion, rather humorously edited out some of the more graphic scenes, and Bethesda changed morphine in Fallout 3 to Med-X, as it is now known in every game.

The game will be out in late April, so expect a review around then.
