Pacific Rim 2 Started Filming

Let’s look at the positives this week.

Pacific Rim, the 2013 monster mash-up directed by Guillermo Del Toro, is getting a sequel, as we mentioned earlier this year.

The film will be directed by Steven DeKnight, who directed Netflix’s own Daredevil. DeKnight was confirmed as the director way back in February, and we will see Star Wars actor John Boyega as the main character.

In a joint statement from Universal and Legendary earlier this year, they said:

“John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) leads the cast of PACIFIC RIM 2, the follow-up to 2013’s cinematic battle for global domination that took audiences to future Earth’s land, skies and seas and introduced an entirely new kind of warfare. Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Daredevil) directs the next chapter of the film that generated more than $400 million at the global box office, including a strong performance in China. The 3D epic adventure will be produced by returning PACIFIC RIM producers Thomas Tull, Guillermo Del Toro and Mary Parent. Boyega joins the production team alongside Femi Oguns.”

John Boyega posted an Instagram of the script, titled Pacific Rim: Maelstrom.

First day on Pacific Rim today. Here’s to a great adventure ahead ✌

All looks very official.

We have no idea what the story will be, or what role John Boyega will play; it’s all been rather hush hush.

Maelstrom will hit theatres on February 23, 2018.

Pacific rim was an amazing film, and while we’ve never actually reviewed it, watch it if you can.
