If someone close to you suffers from dementia, you’ll know just how difficult it can be for them to go about their everyday lives without a helping hand. Sometimes this means missing out on things they love, or giving up on a hobby because they feel isolated.

Well, thanks to Creative Age, a group that encourages memory-based activities for people living with dementia, many people across the North East now have an opportunity to get involved in something incredible.

The group have been working with a number of different artists, developing new skills, and now their creations are being shown in an exhibition in Washington.

Douglas Hunter, co-director of Equal Arts (an older people’s charity that came up with this initiative) commented on the organisation:

“Creative Age supports cultural venues to widen their offer and provide people living with dementia and their carers valuable links within their communities.

“There is a growing understanding that creativity is in tact long after other cognitive functions decline. Moving away from reminiscence, Creative Age instead focuses on the Imagination Model, exploring people’s ideas and being creative.”

The exhibition will include drawings, glasswork, portraits, and even a 3D installation.
If you’d like to check out some of the creations, you can view the show up until June 2nd.
