Prime Music?

The digital age has brought millions of music-lovers to listen online instead of buying a good old physical CD or record. So, as the market for online music expands, we have seen lots of companies launching music streaming services as of late. And Amazon is the most recent.

Amazon is the giant of online shopping and, as most of us know, it gives is great deals on the majority of items that we want. But now Amazin has launched Prime Music UK… the question is, is it really a ‘prime’ streaming service?

Prime Music will provide listeners with access to over one million songs and around 500 precisely crafted playlists. It will compete with the likes of Spotify and Deezer – two of the big names when it comes to music streaming.

Smaller services like Google Play and Jay-Z’s Tidal have been dubbed as ‘flops’ by critics as they have failed to make the same impact on the industry as Spotify and Deezer. Prime Music could be in danger of falling behind in the long list of streaming sites as all we’ve seen so far is new services almost dissolving.

Considering that Prime Music has some major holes in its shallow catalogue, it is difficult to predict success for the service. With the likes of Amy Whinehouse, Katy Perry, Kanye West and others from the Universal Music Group missing, will Prime Music even stand a chance against Spotify?

Judging by recent events, it will take something a lot bigger, better and frankly revolutionary to seriously make a dent in the online music market.
