PuddleWatch Water for Sale

8 January 2016

By Lauren E. White

After a puddle in Drummond became an Internet sensation on Wednesday, a 600ml bottle of the water has been auctioned on eBay for over £20.

20,000 people from across Britain tuned in to watch the puddle in Drummond before it was drained by Newcastle City Council yesterday. Throughout the exhilerating two hours of puddle-watching, people were seen crossing it with lilos, jumping awkwardly and pretending to swim.

While there may have been comedy value in the puddle’s live-streaming on the Periscope app, we’re not sure if the water has the same appeal. However, that didn’t stop two Northumbria University students (below) from taking a sample:

Speaking after the puddle was drained, a council spokesperson said: “Two operatives from our structural engineering contractor were assigned to check the nearby subway following the heavy weather.”

“Through the power of social media the puddle has provided a bit of fun for thousands of people – but with more rain forecast it was probably high time to pull the plug on its internet popularity.”

If you have something to say about the Drummond puddle, it is advised you do so using the hashtag, ‘#DrummondPuddleWatch’
