Radiohead Release New Single

Following their recent online disappearance, band Radiohead have released a new single titled ‘Burn The Witch’. The announcement follows the band updating their Facebook and Twitter accounts, which were previously blank, to now look like this:

The band has also updated their website, but it is still cryptic. Now it simply reads ‘DEAD AIR SPACE’ and the ‘Burn The Witch’ music video is just beneath this message:

The music video uses creepy animation to show the story of an inspector who visits an idyllic village, only for the villagers’ sinister side to be revealed as the video progresses. The video seems to reference a film called ‘The Wicker Man’, especially at its end.

The song itself is good; it makes heavy use of strings and gradually builds and builds to a climax. It is a strange song but isn’t overly experimental and so does not feel forced.  Thom Yorke’s vocals float ethereally over the track, hardly understandable but adding to the sense of unease.

‘Burn The Witch’ seems to be an omen for what is to come from Radiohead: their new album! Watch the music video below:
