This upcoming Monday, a planned 24-hour strike of the rail services will be taking place, with only 40% of the Northern Rail timetable running as normal. So, not only will you be affected if you typically travel by train, but you’re likely to notice a change on the roads too, with many commuters being forced to drive.

Why is this taking place?

With technological advances, the Driver Only Operation (DOO) have decided to remove the responsibility for the opening and closing of train doors from guards. This is concerning for RMT General Secretary Mick Cash, who has ‘deep-seated safety concerns’ over the change.

When will it be taking place?

This Monday, 13th March.

Which routes will be affected?

Newcastle to Carlisle

Nunthorpe and Middlesborough

Just click the route to find the revised timetable for the day.

How will this affect me?

Whether you’re travelling via train or road, give yourself some extra time on Monday. It is likely to be much busier than normal, so take that into consideration when you set off.
