While snow may be a thing of the past, the UK is likely to get unseasonably cold in some parts of the country, with flood and weather warnings in place.

Some trains on the south-east coast of England have been cancelled.

A yellow warning has been put in place for the beginning of the week, so expect strong winds and heavy rain. Forecasters even warned that more than a month’s rainfall could fall within a day.

Already, in Kent, three people have been rescued from the sea at Ramsgate after reports that they were swept from a pier by a large wave. They are currently being treated by the ambulance service.

Firefighters have also rescued a couple and a baby from a car which was stuck in flood water in Sutton Valence, also in Kent. Two flood warnings – which means flooding is expected – remain in place along the River Nene, in east Peterborough and on the coast of North Shields.

More than a measured 29mm of rain was recorded in the Kent area.

The Environmental Agency issued a total of 38 flood alerts.

Trains and flights have also been disrupted, with Thameslink and Gatwick Express services being disrupted.

It will feel unseasonably cold for this time of year, due to pressure moving northward overnight on Sunday. Maximum temperatures could be as low as 6-7C but feeling colder due to wind and rain.

To think we had one of the hottest days in the UK since the 40s the other day.
