Tomorrow will see those who like baking, those who like eating the things people bake and those who are interested in just how ‘tanned’ Paul Hollywood will be this series, convening around TVs all around the country at 8 pm, as the cult BBC cookery show returns for its sixth series.

Loyal fans of the Great British Bake Off, presented by the baking goddess that is Mary Berry, were aghast last year when the show moved from BBC 2 to BBC 1, but when you see how viewer numbers have jumped almost 400% during its five year tenure, you can understand why the beeb felt the show needed to switch sides. It became BBC2’s most popular show, being snapped up in a large number of countries around the world. Yet while the die-hards amongst us were appalled that it had moved to BBC1, there was nothing about its move that deterred people from tuning in for ten weeks to see 50-something grandmother, Nancy Birtwhistle beat out the competition to become 2014’s winner.

The GBBO line-up of 12 contestants this year includes a trainee anaesthetist, a photographer, a fireman and child welfare officer, proving, once again, that anyone is in with a chance of wowing Mary Berry et gang with their kitchen skills.
