As social media has become more and more advanced, there has been a clear rise in cyberbullying – the use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature.

However, over recent years, it has become much more complicated than this, and it is now much more difficult to define what exactly a cyberbully is. Even posting mocking videos online, or acting as a ‘troll’ can be considered cyberbullying, and it is much harder to combat now that there are a larger number of social media sites.

So, the one-part thriller Cyberbully is certainly helpful in explaining the matter further, and getting to the real gritty facts on the problem. However, having been produced for entertainment purposes, it is undoubtedly exaggerated, too.

Starring Maisie Williams, the film takes place in a young girl’s bedroom and revolves around social media. When Casey (Maisie) learns that an ex-boyfriend has posted a cruel message about her online, she has the opportunity to get her own back, but she soon realises that the same person who helped her get revenge was also out to ruin her life.

This truly is a very thought-provoking film, shocking you into being more careful online and be more conscious about your own actions.

Maisie Williams is a fantastic actor, and she doesn’t fail to perform in this. As a result, you’re left constantly shifting between emotions as you attempt to decide which side to take.

Overall, while this film may not depict cyberbullying in a realistic way, it does give you something to think about, and it will keep you on the edge of your seat.

If you want to check it out for yourself, you can find it on on demand (Sky) or view the trailer here.

RATING: 3.5/5
