When we realised that the focus of this year’s John Lewis Christmas advert was the moon, we had terrible flashbacks of that time Fenwick decided it would be aesthetically pleasing to do an alien themed display for their legendary window. However, it seems that John Lewis took on a more tasteful approach, with a visually stunning advert that not only reminded us that Christmas is just around the corner, but also confronted the issue of loneliness among the elderly.

What’s even more special is that the purpose of this advert is not just to boost sales and profit, but to help Age UK with their “No one should have no one at Christmas” campaign. The adverts main objective may have been to bring it to people’s attention that they may well have elderly relatives who feel lonely at Christmas, and that even making a simple phone call to them can make such a difference. Not only have John Lewis aimed their advert at the charity, they also will be selling a range of products of which a 25% donation to Age UK will be made.

While the actual advert itself wasn’t as good as previous years, the message and story line made 2015’s advert, in our opinion, the best one yet.
