Review: One Direction’s Where We Are Tour

On Wednesday 28th May, Sunderland’s Stadium of Light played host to the world’s biggest boy band, One Direction.

The first date of the UK leg of their Where We Are Tour was kicked off with a bang (quite literally) as Louis, Harry, Niall, Zayn and Liam walked out to a sold-out crowd of 49,000 with fireworks behind them. Opening with ‘Midnight Memories’, the song named after their latest album, the stadium was rocking.

It was obvious that the boys appreciated the show as it was on the day Louis and Zayn’s drug scandal video was mysteriously leaked. The boys were greeted with signs that said all kinds of heart-warming messages and it was during ‘You & I’ when Louis acknowledged some of them himself.

During their emotional track ‘Diana’, the boys were hoisted up into the air on a square rising platform and sang the song penned by Tomlinson and his band mate Liam Payne for the fans.

As per usual, the One Direction lads were vocally on point and their sole presence on stage was enough to cause fans – who queued for hours to get close to the front – to go into absolute hysteria. They closed their show after claiming they have ‘the best fans in the world’ and telling them how much they love them, before singing their chart smash-hit ‘Best Song Ever’.

The WWA tour was an experience not only for hardcore One Direction fans, but for any music lover in general as the energy from both the crowd and the music was electric.
