Review: Platform 9 and 3/4, King’s X

In case you’re wondering, there is a ‘real’ Platform 9 and 3/4 in King’s Cross, London, and this headline is not trying to mess with your mind.

Since JK Rowling took the world by storm with her Harry Potter series, the image of wizards running at a wall between platforms nine and ten at King’s Cross in London has been etched into the minds of those who grew up with the fictional world of Hogwarts.

Following the success of the books and films, King’s Cross actually put a luggage trolley on a wall and set up a photo opportunity for travellers in the station. And right next to it is the Platform 9 and 3/4 shop. No coincidence there…

So, is it actually worth it?

Well, it’s not actually located between platforms nine and ten, but it does create the illusion that you’re going to Hogwarts. For any Potter fans, it is well worth the long queue in summer for a photo next to it, especially if you have a while to wait for your train.

A professional photo will be taken for you which you can buy from the shop, but you are allowed to take your own photos on a mobile or camera too. A member of staff will also be there to give you a scarf (you choose the House) and a wand to complete the photo opportunity, so it’s not just any photo – it’s a proper photo.

If you’re visiting King’s Cross, then you might as well go and see it, even if you only have a vague interest in Harry Potter. It’s a bit of fun and a good photo to show your family and friends if you have been on holiday to London or even if you only visited for the day.
