Review:1D’s Ready to Run

7 November 2014

By Lauren E. White

Yesterday the phenomenons that are Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Liam Payne – otherwise known as One Direction – dropped the second song featured on their new album FOUR. ‘Ready to Run’ was released on iTunes after the ‘1D Fandom’ were presented with the task of getting 40,000 shares, likes, reblogs and comments on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook and Instagram – simple for the fans who have proved themselves to be unstoppable for the past four years of the band’s existence.

Written by the oldest of the band, Louis Tomlinson, ‘Ready to Run’ signifies a brand new sound for the boys who are usually associated with their old hits like ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ and ‘Kiss You’ – this song blows them out of the water.

It explores a range of different dynamics – a diverse new genre for One Direction, while also including a climatic high right at the end of the song. It begins with simple harmonies and strums of a guitar before picking up as the song progressed to the second verse sang by Liam Payne, 21. The chorus is extremely catchy – about the only thing in common with any of the boys’ other music as you know the lyrics by the third listen of the three minute work of art.

One thing that I can guarantee is that Tomlinson has outdone himself once again in his songwriting abilities; proving his capability as an artist as he’s not one who just sings. The 22-year-old has included in the song: ‘there’s me in a sinking boat running out of time’ – lyrics you’d never expect to be included in a One Direction song.

FOUR is going to be a fantastic album and that presumption has been secured by ‘Ready to Run’ – a song that has already caused hysteria across all of the main social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr. There are now four songs left to be given to fans who have pre-ordered the deluxe version of the album before it is released in just ten days time (17th November) – a fact that is likely to cause even more hysteria over the coming days.
