TV legend, Anne Kirkbride, sadly passed away yesterday evening. Anne was best known for playing Deirdre Barlow in the ITV soap, Coronation Street.

Anne played Deirdre Barlow for over 42 years and starred in over 1,400 episodes of the soap. Coronation Street viewers welcomed Deirdre into their living rooms nearly every evening of the week.

People have paid tributes across the nation for the much loved actress. William Roache, who plays Kirkbride’s on screen husband, Ken Barlow, was one of the first people to pay his respects to the actress by saying “I feel Anne’s loss so personally having worked with her for over 40 years. She was such a loving and vibrant person. You always knew she was there because her laugh was never far away”.

Other Corrie cast members such as Kate Ford who plays her on-screen daughter, Tracey and Anthony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully, have also spoken openly about their grief of losing such a TV icon and friend.

She will be truly missed and the Barlow family simply won’t be the same again.
