RIP Flappy Bird

The hugely successful smartphone game, Flappy Bird, has been removed from app stores as the Vietnamese game developer, Nguyen Ha Dong, ‘couldn’t stand the attention’. The games developer reportedly made around £30,000 a day from the advertisements which are featured on the highly addictive game.

In a series of tweets, Nguyen told fans of Flappy Bird “I am sorry Flappy Bird users, 22 hours from now, I will take Flappy Bird down. I cannot take this anymore”.

At 5.15pm yesterday, the game became unavailable to download, first appearing on the app store with an error message, then within minutes, the game had gone from search results altogether. Although the game still works on smartphones where users had previously downloaded it, some fans have gone as far as selling their phones still containing the app for large amounts of money.

Flappy Bird was released in May 2013 and wasn’t a big downloader but numbers started to rocket when its difficulty became more known.
