Having been rushed to hospital six months ago, critically ill, the news broke last night that the world has been anticipating – 95 year old Nelson Mandela has died.

The man who sculpted a nation, having served a lengthy 27 years in prison for his fight to quash apartheid passed away in his Johannesburg home, at around 8:50 pm local time.

The President of South Africa, Mr Zuma, said ‘The nation has lost its greatest son’.
Mandela was earlier on released from hospital; many assuming that it was showing positive signs towards his health. But, Mandela’s home was intricately adapted to the required facilities he needed – one’s the same as he was provided with in hospital.

Mourners have gathered outside his home to say their goodbye’s and show their respect to the man who lead his country to democracy and served as the first black President of South Africa from 1994 – 1999.

The world rightly mourns the death of one of history’s most heroic men of the 21st century.
