RIP Rik Mayall

It was reported on Monday morning that British comedian, actor and writer Rik Mayall has passed away aged 56. Mayall was well-known for his overt portrayals of characters such as the arrogant Lord Flashheart in Blackadder and as the pretentious student Richard Richard in the off-the-wall 80’s comedy The Young Ones. Later in his career, he moved onto more measured, considered performances such as the ruthless politician Alan B’Stard MP.

A quad bike accident in 1998 left Mayall in a coma for several days.

Farewell to one of the comedy legends of the 80’s and 90’s, a man who will be sorely missed to anyone who has witnessed the slap-stick caper that is Bottom or the conniving and bribery of The New Statesman.
