From humble beginnings, to this much success, we would never have thought Psyonix’s car brawler would be an A list title.

Rocket League, a game so simple that a monkey could play it, yet with a skill ceiling high enough to keep you playing, is a wonderful game. It’s basically football with cars. It started as an Unreal Tournament mod, where it was vehicle-based combat only.

It then evolved into an battle arena style game, and eventually became the game we all know and love.

It was originally released on PlayStation Plus as a free title, and gained a foothold and a fan base as the game grew more and more.

After nearly two years, 10.5 million people have bought the game. Which is an incredible number across all platforms. On Steam, its average monthly player base is a strong 30,000, and the concurrent players stays at around 24,000.

After speculations for a sequel, Jeremy Dunham has said that the dev team is fully focused on updating the game, adding new modes and cars. Which, honestly, makes far more sense. To ride the success train until it stops.

If you can pick it up, do so. It’s just fun.

Well done Psyonix!
