England took on Estonia on Sunday in the Euro 2016 qualifier. This could have been a pretty straight forward game for England but the opening goal didn’t come until 16 minutes from the final whistle when England’s captain Wayne Rooney struck home an outstanding free kick!

Estonia were sent down to 10 men just after half time when their captain Ragnar Rlavan received his second yellow card. If Estonia had held onto the game and didn’t concede a goal against England the draw would have went down in the history of Estonian football.

In the first half there were times when England’s possession count reached 82% but Estonia had strategies and a plan to play like San Marino did against Roy Hodgson’s England side. The plan was to keep as many people behind the ball as possible to prevent England breaking through their defence. But it was only a matter of time before Rooney picked out a corner of the home goal and the anxiety of the England bench subsided.

The game ended 1-0 to England not necessarily a well deserved 3 points. This leaves England top of group E winning three games out of three but the table positioning could still go anyway as they still have multiple games left to play.
