Well, ain’t that a kick in the teeth to pre-orders.

Microsoft have officially announced they have cancelled the game Scalebound, which was set to release this year. The game was to be published by Platinum Games, but after what was considered “careful deliberation” by Microsoft, the game has been pulled.

Here’s the full statement:

“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound,” a Microsoft spokesperson said. “We’re working hard to deliver an amazing line-up of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, and other great experiences.”

It was discovered earlier this week that the page Scalebound had on Xbox.com had been removed, along with all the gameplay footage and trailers that had been uploaded to the Official Xbox YouTube channel. The game was absent from Xbox Wire’s blog post that showed the upcoming releases for this year, and we’ve heard hardly anything from the game since last year’s E3.

It is unfortunate that the game has been cancelled, as it was being directed by Hideki Kamiya, who of course was behind the masterpiece that was Bayonetta.

No, seriously that game was fantastic.

There has been no word yet as to whether the game’s development will continue after the split with Microsoft.

Yet another reason not to pre-order.

Because the game might literally never see the light of day.
