#ShareTheWorld How to Save for Travelling

2 March 2016

By Nicole

Time for another #ShareTheWorld post, and this time I’m not going to be writing about travelling, but rather how to prepare for travelling.

If you’re anything like me and you love to shop, go out with friends, and eat out at nice restaurants, then you’ll know how hard it is to save money. And unfortunately for us, going travelling requires a heck of a lot of saving – but if I can do it, then you guys can too! Here’s a list of my top 5 tips for saving money for travelling.

  1. Get a job
Okay, so this one might seem pretty obvious to everyone but it has to be said – the most effective way to earn and save enough money for travelling is to get yourself a job! Now this doesn’t have to be anything serious or full-time because every little job helps, so long as it’s bringing in a regular income that you can predict. You can do anything from working in a shop on a weekend, doing bar work for a few hours on an evening or even just cleaning and ironing for your mum once a week – every little helps!

  2. Get a savings account
Having a savings account is a really great way to help you save as it gives you a separate account which you can’t use to blow all your money on everyday things. It keeps your current money and your savings completely separate and is a great visual tool for measuring your progress.

  3. Sell, sell, sell!
It really is true that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, so a great way to save money for travelling is to sell all your unwanted things; you’ll be surprised at how much you can make. Go through your things and sell everything you don’t want or use anymore from games consoles, to clothes, shoes, and books. And be brutal – there’s no point holding on to something if you never wear it. Car boot sales and online platforms such as eBay and Depop are great for selling your stuff.

So there you have my top three tips for helping you save. Try them out alongside little things such as eating packed lunches, going out less, budgeting each week, setting yourself realistic goals and always tracking your progress! Happy saving guys! It may seem hard now but it will be worth it in the end!

Never lose sight of your end goal.
