As many of you might know, if you’re attuned to gaming, the recent remaster of Skyrim was released last week, under the name, Skyrim: Special Edition.

Now, remasters are nothing new, and a lot of games in the last few years have been just that, from IPs like Halo and God of War. It’s a way to breathe new life into a game that may otherwise be unplayable in the future. But is this version worth getting?

There is a noticeable graphical update – with textures looking crisp, and some better lighting effects, it looks great.

There is a definite upgrade in the visual quality. Looks better than Fallout 4…

However – that’s it.

Beyond the updated visuals and the inclusion of all the DLC for the £29.99 price tag, that’s all you’re getting. No updated quest lines, no updated animations, just textures.

Now, for console, this is a godsend. Simply because of how terrible the game looked on last gen consoles. The PS3 and 360 versions were okay at the time, but given the five years that have passed since then, they look horribly dated. So an update is just what the game needs.

Is it just me, or does everything look a bit.. blurry? Nice, but… blurry.

For PC users, however, it really isn’t worth your time, unless you have never played it. Nexus mods have transformed vanilla Skyrim tenfold over what Bethesda could do. We’d recommend the 2K Texture Pack, and the free HD Texture Pack on Steam. Given how easy and free it is to mod Skyrim, it’s a mystery as to why you wouldn’t.

People are already complaining about a supposed downgrade in audio? Have a listen to the level up sound:

The remaster is for consoles. PC users, just hit up the Nexus site and go mad with the various texture updates and bug fixes.

You know what’s coming:
