Smartwatch Sales Drop

Smartwatch sales have declined 51.6% in the last few years, with Apple remaining the top sellers.

Like being king of a trash heap.

While Apple may have the top spot, it only shipped just over one million units in the third quarter of this year (July-September). To show the extent of the drop, consider this: In 2015, in the same quarter, Apple shipped close to 4 million units.

Apple is now marketing its watch as a fitness device rather than an overly pricey fashion accessory.

Ben Wood, analyst at CCS Insight, said, “The new Apple Watch was looming, Samsung has announced new products that are not yet shipping and Google has delayed the next release of Android wear.”

With many watches having rather steep starting prices, it’s understandable why the novelty is wearing off.

(HA, wearing off: accessory pun).

IDC Research found that Apple’s year-on-year decline in its watch sales was a staggering 71.6%, and that Samsung didn’t even manage to ship half a million units in both 2016 and 2015.

“We actually believe the growing number of so-called smart analogue watches are where the main action will be in 2017, particularly as well-established watch brands like Fossil increase the number of smarter models they offer though traditional watch retail channels.”

And let’s be honest, who’s honestly going to spend up to £8,000 (the price for the gold-plated Apple Watch) for a tool that basically promotes laziness?

Can’t be b**ped to take your phone out of your pocket?

Apple Watch.

Can’t be bothered to check your phone for the time or buy a regular watch and want to show off like the probable B**phat you are?

APPLE WATCH.

What a time to be alive.
