Song Review: Shout Out to my Ex

Pop girl group Little Mix are back on the music scene with the release of their new single Shout Out to my Ex.

Believed to be about her former fiancee of two years and boyfriend of three, Zayn Malik – of One Direction fame – Perrie Edwards and the rest of the LM girls debuted the song on Sunday night’s X Factor. Since then, the single has rocketed to number one in the iTunes charts but has not received success in the Official Top 40.

Shout Out to my Ex is a typically Little Mix song – it’s catchy, fun and upbeat. With a chorus virtually chanting the lyrics, it’s difficult to avoid having the tune stuck in your head for a whole twenty-four hours, but that’s what we love about them, right?

One thing that does confuse me about break-up songs of this type is how they profess ‘I’m really over it’ yet they’re singing about their former lover to millions. I wonder, are people as ‘over it’ as they make out to be?
