Star Wars Episode IX was originally set to be directed by Jurassic World’s Colin Trevorrow but was switched to JJ Abrahams in September. Abrams has revealed that the script is now finished and will begin production in the coming months.

Abrams, appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was asked about the progress on IX. To Which he responded:

‘It starts shooting end of July. Sometimes having the script in advance is something I haven’t always been lucky enough to have. But I’m writing this with Chris Terrio, who’s a genius, and I’m having a great time.’

In October, he hinted that he wouldn’t be playing safe when it comes to his second Star Wars movie. Given the reception of The Last Jedi maybe that’s what the series needs to do. TLJ did some rather unorthodox things with the material and characters. You can read the review here.

Most of the key actors from the previous two movies will return, including Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac. Ridley has stated that this will be her last Star Wars movie.

‘I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So, in my head, it’s three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out.’

We can’t wait for the next movie. We’re more sceptical of the Han Solo movie, however.
