Finally.

Suicide Squad 2 has come out of director limbo, after finally being given a director. With rumours that Mel Gibson would direct the movie coming to nothing then The Shallows’ Jaume Collet-Serra giving the movie a hard pass, the movie will now be directed by Gavin O’Connor.

Deadline reported that O’Connor was in the final stages of getting the job. He directed the hit thriller The Accountant with Ben Affleck, making $155 million at the box office worldwide. O’Connor will also co-write the screenplay. While Suicide Squad 2 doesn’t have a release date, Joel Kinnaman, who plays Rick Flag, said that the movie would start filming in 2018.

The director of the first movie, David Ayer, is no longer attached to any DC movies. He was supposedly attached to the Gotham City Sirens movie, in which Poison Ivy, Catwoman and Harley Quinn all team up, however that was not in the movies announced at San Diego Comic Con this year. It was however reported that the Sirens movie would be replaced by a Joker and Harley Quinn movie.

There is also another Joker movie being made outside of the DC cinematic universe. It will potentially be produced by Martin Scorsese.

Let’s just see if they can get Justice League right first eh?
