After last year’s guff with The Ghost in the Shell, it would seem people are a bit savvier when it comes to whitewashing their characters, to appeal to a broader audience. It’s an awful practice that puts gains above representation, which sucks.

Ed Skrein, probably most famous for his recent role in Deadpool, as Ajax, has decided to step down as he was cast as a character with Asian heritage, saying on Twitter ‘I must do what is right’. Which is a pleasant change to the formula, meaning the studio now essentially has to hire someone of mixed Asian heritage. See his full tweet below:

It’s nice to see an actor call out their own mistakes. Good on him.

While they search for another actor to fill the role of Major Ben Daimio, Hellboy already has a few roles filled, including Resident Evil’s Milla Jovovich as the Blood Queen, Ian McShane as Prof. Broom, and Stranger Things star David Harbour will play the big red ape himself.

In other Hellboy news, it was recently revealed he would be a character in the newest DLC pack for Injustice 2.

No official release date has been given for the movie, but work is underway it seems. We’ll keep you posted.
