Prepare your PS4-having butts; it’s about to get real.

The trailer begins with a shot of the woods, silent and serene, before cutting to Naughty Dog’s logo, the developers. From here, we see what look to be familiar hands, and a familiar voice strikes up a rather melancholy tune. It’s Ellie, but not like we’ve seen her before.

She’s grown considerably. And she’s bloody. Scars and scratches litter her hands and blood trickles down her face.

And while she sings, we see Joel, again returning from the last game, walk through the house she plays in. Bodies are strewn in the living room, the bathroom, and outside of her door. She ends the song, and says she won’t stop until she’s killed “every last one of them.”

No release date or any other details were shared.

The trailer debuted at yesterday’s PlayStation Experience, and was then put on the official YouTube page.

At the conference, creative director Neil Druckmann said in a blog post:

“I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special – a story that evolved into an epic journey.”

PS4 users: be on the lookout for more information on the upcoming sequel.

The first game wowed everyone with its story and characters. The visuals were updated for the PS4 release last year, and it’s incredible to hear the developers are running the game on an updated engine.

In other trailer news, Guardians of the Galaxy got its most recent trailer release yesterday too! We see baby Groot in action, as well as some much-loved banter between the ragtag gang of miscreants.

Bring on 2017!
