The Shard is in the running for winning the coveted design award, the Stirling Prize. The glass skyscraper, which is located in the city of London, is going head to head with other buildings such as Birmingham’s new public library, a theatre in Liverpool and the £269 million aquatics centre in East London’s Olympic Park.

The Royal Institute of British Architects Stirling Prize is a prize for excellence in British architecture. The prize is awarded annually and to be in the running for the prize, you must be a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

To celebrate the Shard making the shortlist, here are five interesting facts about the skyscraper:

  • It has 11,000 glass panels.
  • The Shard is the tallest building in Europe.
  • It is 309.6 metres high.
  • The Shard’s total floor space is 27 acres.
  • It cost £500 million to build.
