Speculations over whether or not PM Theresa May knew about a failed Trident missile test before the Renewal Vote have prompted a debate about the morality of her reluctance to disclose all of the details of the experiment.

What we know so far is that a Trident missile malfunctioned and went in the total wrong direction which wouldn’t really be ideal in a real life emergency.

This happened without disclosure a few weeks before MPs voted to invest £40 billion to renew Trident. Perhaps the outcome of the vote would have been very different if the MPs had been made aware of the risks and flaws of the missiles.

In fact, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament claimed, “There is absolutely no doubt that this would have impacted on the debate in Parliament on Trident replacement.”

While it wasn’t fair to keep vital information from MPs prior to the vote, it may have been in the UK’s best interests to ensure that Trident was renewed, as the PM believes that it would be “an act of gross irresponsibility” to scrap it in this day and age. World War Three could be just around the corner and to disarm ourselves could mean that we are completely vulnerable to attacks from other countries that we are unable to retaliate to.
