Theresa Mayhem

9 June 2017

Yes, it happened.

Theresa May has failed to win a Conservative majority and has thus failed in her aim to “strengthen” her hand in the Brexit negotiations.

By all means, she has weakened her hand in these negotiations as EU leaders will see her as weak – certainly weaker than the “bloody difficult woman” her campaign hung on – and they will wonder if, in 2022, she will even be elected again.

That is, of course, if the next general election isn’t in the autumn as many – including myself – think will happen if Mrs Mayhem gets back into power with the DUP.

What all this means is that Theresa May is short of the 326 seats you need to form a government. She needs the support of another party – the Democratic Unionist Party in Ireland have agreed to help her out – to form a government.

Now, she has to ask the Queen if she can form a government in the wake of (correct) calls for her to resign.

As anyone who is even vaguely politically literate can see, this election defeat for Theresa May is embarrassing and humiliating. Jeremy Corbyn was supposed to be a complete joke of a candidate for Prime Minister but his share of the vote went up by almost 10%.

However you look at it, Theresa May has put her own interests before the country’s and has lost the gamble.

It serves her right for taking votes for granted and for having a dismal campaign that was secretive and exclusive.

Sorry not sorry, Theresa, but you’ve got to go.
