With Batman V Superman around the corner, we thought we’d shed some light upon some of the brooding male heroes’ counterparts. Yes, we have the top 5 comic book heroines!

5. Catwoman – Selina Kyle – Not quite heroine, not quite villain. Selina has a rather expensive taste, and a thirst for adrenaline. She walks the thin line between criminal and anti-hero. Trained in the circus at a young age, she is a master of acrobatics and guile. Originally a criminal operating in Gotham City, and with occasional tiffs with on/off lover Batman, she eventually became part of the Bat Family, along with Robin, Bat-Girl and the Red Hood. Armed with her signature whip and sharp tongue, she remains a formidable force in Gotham.

4. Gamora – Daughter of Thanos – Put it this way: if she could kill you, she probably already has. Gamora is the female member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and probably the most dangerous. Her tenacity and combat skills are a dangerous combination on the battlefield, and she has tangled with some of the most powerful beings on the Earth, including Thanos himself, and most recently in the comics, Angela, a creature of immense power and origin. Whether she wields a sword or a gun, or even if it’s her bare hands, she stops at nothing, because under that friendly – if somewhat abrupt – exterior, there is a deeper, more dangerously abrupt interior.

3. Black Widow – Natasha Romanoff – Assassin for S.H.I.E.L.D. and a good one at that. Trained from a very young age in all manner of espionage and infiltration, she is a hand-crafted killing machine, with a dark past, and a mother figure to some of the other characters in the Marvel universe. In the recent Avengers films, she has become a maternal figure to the team, keeping them in line, while being the elusive assassin with a shadowed past. She’s known for her red hair, and black leather suit.

2. X-23 – Laura Kinney – Cloned to be exactly like Weapon-X rogue experiment Wolverine, she has adamantium claws and exo-skeleton. She’s as deadly as her predecessor, and motivated by one goal. To kill anyone, and everyone… for a price. She has battled members of the X-Men, The Hulk, and even Wolverine himself. But with a twist: she won. After being reconciled by Dare-Devil and Captain America, she went her own way in the Marvel universe. With claws on her hands and feet, she’s a force to be reckoned with.

1. Robin – Carrie Kelly – As the Dark Knight grew old, he needed a new companion.Luckily, Carrie Kelly was aspiring to be Robin, the Boy (or rather girl) Wonder. She made her first appearance in The Dark Knight Returns, and has occasionally been said to be the lesser of the Robins. However, it is with her help that the Bat brought down Superman, and showed the world that he will not buckle. And neither would his soldier. She gave him what he needed to keep fighting, and even saved his life after the fight with the Mutant Leader.
