Games are expensive. Ranging from £23.99 to £49.99 for new releases, it can be a slog trying to save up for a particular game. But, if you know where to look, there are some awesome games you can play for free. Some are old, some are very recently updated. Here’s our top 5 free2play games.

warframe

Warframe: Ever wanted to feel like a space ninja with guns far larger than you could ever imagine? Well, Warframe might be the game you’re looking for. Since its inception in 2013, it has had a number of changes. From navigation, to the rather spectacular Archwing missions, in which you take up arms in your winged suit and fly through space completing objectives. The free-to-play model is the best I’ve ever seen, as you can’t exactly buy power. You can purchase Platinum, which you can use to buy weapons and frames, however you have to level them up. So you might buy the newest warframe, but you have to do the work. Wonderful, and the art style is gorgeous.

No More Room in Hell: Craving a zombie-shooter with horror elements? We’ve got something for that. Take to the streets of zombie-infested cities as you try to get to the end of the map without dying… or worse, being infected. The team element is everything in this game. If you go alone, prepare for certain death. Totally free, and rather fun if you can play with your friends.

PlanetSide 2: A fairly recent game I’ve been playing, and honestly, it’s rather fun. Think Battlefield, but on a global scale. Battles can last for hours, pushing and pulling back points from the brink. Hundreds of players are online daily, which gives the instances a real sense of war, as 30-40 people around you firing and vehicles roving past really immerses you. You’ll have be fast and patient to get some kills, but it’s all worth it.

Dirty Bomb: If you read our review, you know this is a favourite of mine. A fairly decent business model and solid mechanics make this a must-have. The game is purely objective-based and requires some rather hefty team work. No one soldier can carry the team, and with a roster of characters that rotate weekly, it’s rather enjoyable to find a character that suits you.

Marvel: Heroes 2016: Ever wanted to play Diablo, but with superheroes? Well, Marvel has you covered. This top-down pseudo-dungeon crawler features pretty much every single Marvel character ever. From big names like Iron Man and Spider-Man to the lesser known types of Squirrel-Girl or Moon Knight. The game never ends with over 50 characters and a huge number of abilities to unlock.

Well, that’s this list over and done with. I’m going to go capture some more continents for my faction on PlanetSide
