People often talk about rock and hip-hop as if it’s something that’s never been done before. Every few years we’ll see a resurgence of artists collaborating on a track that blends the two genres effortlessly. Or ones that maybe don’t do it as well. Let’s have a look at some of the most famous collabs in recent times.

First up, probably the most popular rock and rap collab ever: Run DMC and Aerosmith. Their track ‘Walk This Way’ was an instant classic, taking the two most popular names at the time and smashing them into each other in a first class song. It has been covered numerous times across the decades, even by Girls Aloud.

Another relic from the past, Anthrax and Public Enemy. A thrashy, metally true rock and hip-hop collaboration if ever we’ve seen one. It’s pretty revolutionary for the time. A decent flow over a few really impressive guitar riffs.

Now something a bit more contemporary. Back in 2010, an artist shot to fame through one song, ‘Airplanes’. B.o.B and Hayley Williams’s song sold extremely well, and topped several charts worldwide. He has since released a few albums, but nothing will ever hit the radio waves like this banger did back in 2010.

Next, we have a hit from back in 2004, from the album Collision Course. This features the already blended rock and rap styles of Linkin Park and Jay-Z. The collaboration stretched across a number of tracks, the most famous of which was ‘Encore/Numb’. And honestly, more than a decade one, it’s still pretty dope.

Lastly, we have something that everyone will have heard. ‘Sucker for Pain’ featuring Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa, Imagine Dragons, Logic, Ty Dolla $ign and X Ambassadors. Man, that’s a mouthful of artists. The song was done for the less-than-great movie Suicide Squad, and is, oddly, a really good mix of artists. The song is solid, and Lil Wayne’s verse is actually pretty decent.

And thus concludes our short list of rock and rap collaborations. It’s a type of music that many have ventured to, and achieved great success, like the artists here. We look forward to more!
