If you’ve ever suffered from acne, you’ll know just how much of a drain it can be on your self-confidence and motivation. Chances are, you’ve probably tried a million different creams, moisturisers, and anything else you can get your hands on. As everyone’s skin is very different and reacts differently to certain products, it can be difficult to know where to look for the best solution. So, that’s where we come in. Of course, it’s important to take these tips into consideration regarding your own skin, but hopefully, a few new ideas may help you out a little.

  • Choose hair products carefully – While hair products obviously don’t affect your face directly, they can affect your hairline and cause a major breakout. Try to avoid oily products, and don’t wash your hair excessively with shampoo and conditioner.
  • DO NOT PICK AT YOUR SKIN – You’ve probably heard this rule plenty of times, but it really is a must no matter how little you think it may affect your skin to squeeze or pick at the odd spot or two. You could easily be left with scars that will last for years, so getting rid of a spot for a few hours really isn’t worth it for a lifetime of low self-confidence.
  • Birth control may improve the condition of your skin – Certain brands of birth control have been proven to improve the condition of your skin, lowering the amount of androgens in your body which, in excess, tend to cause acne. So, it may be a good idea to visit your doctor and see if they can recommend something for you.
  • Be careful about what you eat – What you put in your body can be just as detrimental for your skin as what you put on your body. Certain foods, such as chocolate and cheese, can often trigger a breakout. So, just be careful, and notice which foods can affect your skin.
  • Choose your face products carefully, and when you wear them – If acne affects your self-confidence, you may often wear makeup in order to cover up. However, this isn’t always the best idea. For instance, you should never wear makeup to the gym – the sweat won’t be able to escape, as your pores will be all clogged up, and this can cause a build up of more spots. In terms of cleansing your face, your best option is probably to try a number of different products until you find the right one. Never choose oily products, and look out for ones that are specifically for skin with acne, as they’ve already been tested and tried so they have a higher success rate.

So, there you go. Hopefully, you’ll have learnt a few new tips about treating acne, but the most important thing you can do is notice how different products, foods, and even treatments, affect your skin and change your daily routine according to this. Remember, everyone has different skin and it’s important to be happy with yours. While treating acne is likely to improve your self-confidence, this is also something that comes from within. You’re still beautiful.
