For many people, travelling is a frightening and daunting thing to do – especially alone. Whether it’s on the train, a bus or in a taxi, travelling is often stressful and filled with endless possibilities.

So if you are one of the many people who gets nervous when travelling anywhere alone, these tried and tested tips will help you out and calm those nerves for sure.

1. Put your tickets in order

There is absolutely no point in telling an anxious person to double-check their travel times because they will have already triple-checked them. That’s what we do.

So, if you’ve got train tickets, for example, put them in the order of use with the ones you will use first on the top of the pile.

2. Put money in different places

One of the worries we often have when travelling alone is being stolen from and pick-pocketed.

An easy way to calm your nerves about that is to put money in your purse/wallet in your bag, put some in your coat pocket or somewhere else on your person. That way, even if you lose some money, you won’t be worried about being left with nothing.

3. Take earphones

If you’re going to a busy place the noise can be quite overwhelming, causing you to feel claustrophobic and panicky.

Earphones are a great way to get past this issue. Play your favourite songs when travelling so that you can be soothed by them and distracted from the constant chatter or sound.

However, don’t turn your music up so loud you can’t hear anything as you may miss important announcements or someone trying to get your attention.

4. Keep in contact with someone when moving

Even the thought of being entirely alone can be daunting.

If you have someone who cares about you and knows you’re off by yourself, keep texting them updates on what you’re doing. Even if they don’t reply, it can help your peace of mind if you know someone knows where you are and what you’re doing. You feel less alone that way.

If you don’t want to do that, just open up the notes page on your phone and keep a bullet-point list of your movements.

5. Wear clothes you feel comfortable in

Comfort equals confidence.

If you wear clothes that make you feel like you and feel relaxed, your travelling will be much easier on your mind.

Don’t wear heels if you don’t feel comfortable and don’t wear flats if you feel better in heels! Do you and you will be fine.

Good luck when travelling. All will be well, we promise.
